This novel is being published for the first time. "The Price" was written at the beginning of the 80s and, at the time of its writing was not intended to be a futurological forecast. AII the more interesting, then, that we easily recognize actual historical nuances in this absorbing narrative. Girshovich's prose is a remarkable mixture of literary allusions, brilliant plot structure, stylistic and intellectual refinement.
The novel's structure shows constant shifts from dystopia to the mystery story, from literary parody to the so-called "Bildungsroman", and to literary homage (first andforemost to "The Gift" by VIadimir Nabokov).
The mixture of genres and the dynamic action make this book an engrossing read which will hold anybody's attention.
