First published in 1908, the book of parodies by Alexander Izmailov (1873-1921), The Crooked Mirror, was more popular then any other book of this kind in the beginning of the 20th century. Poems and short humorous essays from this collection were reprinted in all the provincial newspapers and magazines and actors read them at concerts throughout Russia. Izmailov's parodies were often confused with the mocked originals by the most prominent authors of his time, Bely, Kuzmin, Balmont, Gorky. Until today in Russian literature, the title of the collection is synonymous to the name of genre of parody. This edition is the first re-publication of The Crooked Mirror after 1917.
