The book contains the works of the of the 20th century classical French writer Margerit Yourcenar (1903-1987), the first woman-writer to be elected to the French Academy in 1983. Her creations combine the subtle understanding of human feelings with the diversity of narrative manner: from the austerity of her early novels, through the ornamental prose of the 1930's and to the parabolic form of her "Eastern Stories". The novels "The Last " and "The Incommutable Dinar", as well as the narratives from the collection "As the Flowing Water" are published in Russian for the first time.
