The subject of the book is origin of such master as Mikhail Bulgakov in the city of Kiev at the run of the ХIХ and ХХ century. The city culture was a plentiful source of inspiration for his creative work. Paraphrasing title of the book, which was popular at the spring of the writer's life, one could name the book by Petrovskij as "Birth of the writer from the city spirit".
