Rene Girard (b. 1923) — the French philosopher, the founder of the original universal theory of the religion and culture origin. He was glorified by the book «Violence and sacred» (1972), but only in the book "The Scapegoat" (1982) Girard’s theory has appeared as an integral. On an example of texts about medieval persecutions on Jews the philosopher enters concept of "texts of persecutions» — the texts made by persecutors, but against their will opening truth about innocence of a victim, — and shows, that all mythologies of the world are exactly such texts. The main thesis of Girard is that people have learned to decipher these texts only owing to evangelical revelation. This thesis at first have caused a wave of indignation in the intellectual world, but then got a set of supporters. According to Girard, liberation and simultaneously destructive effect of this revelation proceeds today — and this book serves one of its tools.
