Mariush Wilk
By tracks of a reindeer

Russian North is an object of long-term attention of Polish writer Mariush Wilk. He renders habitable space a word, and the pages of its prose separated, apparently, — records "without delay", historical and culturological digressions, interview and an essay form a uniform current of learning feeling and worrying thought.
The north for Wilk is a «penetration territory»: here there is time and a solitude, necessary to dive deep into — «under a flickering surface of momentary events», to see beauty and coherence of all with all.
The new book of the writer is devoted to a “strange” barrier overcoming. The stranger — only another. There are Saami, small northern people among which the writer has lived some time in 2005-2006. Seen by M.Wilk on the Solovetsky Islands Lappish labyrinths have induced him to begin this fascinating travel.
