Elliott Weinberger (born in 1949) is a modern American writer. Having received popularity as a poet he subsequently has won the recognition as one of the best translators from Spanish (Mexican Order of Aztec Eagle, 2000), he also was a friend of Octavio Pass. He becomes an outstanding figure in American essay writing and critics since the middle of 1980 (National Book Critics Circle Award, 1999).
Weinberger’s essay harmonizes intricate Borges «knowledge aesthetics» and Anglo-Saxon intellectual discipline, empiricism, skepticism. Being highly sensitive works of art, his texts also save purely perceptive interest acquainting us with little known cultural, historical and biological phenomena.
The most significant and typical essays selected by the author from his three books are presented in the collected stories: «Works on Paper» (1986), «Outside Stories» (1992), «Karmic Traces» (2000). Weinberger’s essays are published in Russian for the first time.
