Acknowledged classic of Mexican literature, Juan José Arreola (1918-2001) has showed his worth in short story – parable genre which is the most popular in Latin America. Arreola is the master of stylization, expert and amateur of art make. However the object of his delicate, lyrical and sometimes cynical thoughts on purpose is the man’s heart, in which he notices an abyss inaccessible to comprehension. Arreola is the writer of paradox and antinomy; he is grievously trying to find the absolute and each time subjecting his findings to bitter derision.
